Rena stretched her back and wiped her hands on her apron. Things were about to start winding down, and they could start getting ready for the morning. That was the nice thing about helping out around here. While the rest of Sigil leaned toward one flavor of madness or another, the kitchen was consistent. A safe haven for within and without.
Still, she didn't normally volunteer this frequently. Things to do, places to be. But work, her actual work, had been slow, and with her expenses it's not like she really needed the money. She could stand to put in an appearance more often. As satisfying as it was to steal from someone with more than they knew what to do with, it was good to make herself useful besides.
And the real reason, though she'd hardly admit it, was that the sparkly girl from the other day might turn up again.
People don't usually turn up to help so soon after their arrival. And she was nice, asking for nothing. But in Rena's foolishness, she hadn't even gotten her name. Of course, she could probably ask around. Someone like that would make an impression on anybody. But then... No. She would turn up here on her own, without any intervention on Rena's part. Probably. Not that it mattered. Not that they were friends.
She put a hand to her forehead and closed her eyes. What was the matter with her...
But when she opened them again, there she was, with, chickens over her shoulder? And her bodyguard, the broom-tamperer, was in tow. Of course. But as Rena waved her over, she couldn't stop the hint of a smile from playing at her lips.
