Day 4 | EM to MM | Renown Mission

by Mysti » Sun Aug 13, 2023 3:34 pm

The Hive? Really? REALLY?! To say Mysti was ticked off would be an understatement worthy of the record books. Why in the name of every god out there would the Harmonium send her HERE?!

Well -- she knew why. Ostensibly she was to patrol these narrow, winding streets -- streets that to Mysti's nose stank of death, poverty, and the disgusting body odors of a dozen different species of -- entities. Hmmhmm, she didn't care at all to know what kind of entities.

Unlike many "Hardhead" patrols, Mysti moved in silence, her dark eyes observing the goings-on in this wretched place while securely hidden in the shadows of leaning buildings and empy alleys. She wasn't stupid enough to boldly march down the street as if she owned the place, but she did keep her bow in her hand when normally she would keep it fastened to her back so as not to intimidate the "civilians."

This enterprising dhampir bounty hunter had been flitting from shadow to shadow to shadow for -- some five hours now, she estimated. It was difficult to tell in a place like this -- and while she did witness a few minor indiscretions such as pick-pocketing and a shell game that cheated the players (Mysti figured he would be dead within the hour) -- she didn't see anything that was worth revealing her presence. She was just about to head back to the barracks when her target appeared seemingly from out of nowhere.

Heh, what luck was this? The man in question was supposedly running a trafficking business, gathering all manner of sentient beings involuntarily for use as fodder in the Bllood War. Well -- he used to run a trafficking business. The arrow that flew out of the shadows skewered the man's neck. Perfect, Mysti thought. She ran to the soon-to-be corpse -- the man was still struggling for that last breath. Mysti ripped the arrow out of the man's throat and returned it to her quiver. She had to be quick. Thus she pulled a ring from his finger -- proof that the assassination had been accomplished, then scampered back into the shadows.

It was time to get the hell out of there. How she hated the Hive. Mysti knew the Harmonium were not altogether welcomed there. Relief washed over her when she left the place behind her. It had been a perfect job commissioned by a private entity; the Harmonium would never find out. And because the death had occurred in the Hive, well ... who cares, right?
