"Fair enough." Thaddeus conceded. As with the liquor, one should only offer and entice, but not pester or pressure. Something done under demand is usually not one fully experienced.

As the waltz comes to an end, Thad leads Dare over to a table hosting beverages and sustenance. "Please, help yourself." He takes up a cup of some liquid unknown to him and a little plate of fruit and cheeses, holding some pieces up to his shoulder to share with Cornelius. "So, aside from chess and executing your duties for the court, how do you enjoy spending your time?"

And thus the illithid left the goblin to it's own device
Which at this point assumed the form of stuffing a few goodies into a sack, and, giving the collection of misshapen giants surrounding him a final once over, quietly skulking toward the [/exit!]

"Indeed my fighting abilities are reduced to mediocre fisticuffs while kept apart from my magical equipment. But so is the fencer without their sword, the archer without their bow. Even the best artist in the world is little thing when they've got only their fingers as brush, their blood as paint.

I agree there are moments in life where you have to get into a fight without your weapon of choice at your disposal. The warrior who wants to live old tries to keep their number small.

A knight who goes in the dark woods without their enchanted sword is not brave but foolish. I myself always have my arcanic armor ready to be deployed when wandering dangerous locations.

I could see the insight of something like taking a few extra boxing or martial arts lessons to not be as vulnerable during the moments I require to put it on. But getting punched in the face repeatedly to please the crowd doesn't seem nearly as learning an experience."

''Have a pleasant evening, ser Ikkit''

And thus the illithid left the goblin to it's own device

"It's not as though they're going to compete by lifting heavy loads, 'tis a fight. If you can't fight without magic, then maybe you need more training... I have a confession to make. These muscles," Thad says, giving a quick flex of his arms, "they're all for show. Don't have much functional strength. I too rely mostly on magics to carry myself in battle. I still get along fine 'nough in the 'rena. It's not about winning or losing, it's about gaining new insight into yourself and into others."

Ikkit simply bowed back.

The illithid inclined their head

''The City of Doors is due for something new and you proposition will benefit many in need it''

''Of course'' a business card appeared and floated towards the goblin
And was treated with far more dignity and care than any of the food he'd been bolting.

"I will be in touch soon. I appreciate your interest in the idea, and your input on potential difficulties."

"No magic? You do realize that, if I was boxing competitively, it would be in the super featherweight category? It's as if you were asking an archer to compete at tree throwing. Different skills altogether.

I have no contempt for physical abilities, that require as much as work if not more as mental ones to be mastered. Simply, life is short, and choices have to been made over which skills to focus on.

But really what do you expect me to do in a physical prowess arena except setting up a record for shortest KO?"

"Temporary pain may yet bring a new 'preciation of life and the lack of such stimulation." Thaddeus offers as a counterpoint to Dare's comment on the urchin.

The belly dancers finish their routine and the musicians leave the stage. On the other side, the next act has already been setup and begins to play. Flashes of onyx and cobalt blue surround the crowd as dancers take position and step into a waltz.

Thad steps to Dare's side and offers a hand to join the dance. "There may be no chivalry there now, but is it not the duty of a knight to bring chivalry where there's none? They may not follow the chivalric code, but there's still a code. No magics allowed, only your own strength, wits, and the benefits of your own effort."

Dare and Thad spin gracefully across the dance floor, only their wardrobe separating them from the professionals. "As to what benefit you would obtain from goin'. What better reason than to test your mettle? Step outside the trainin' yard and pit yourself against an opponent who truly intends you harm. Come to know your adversary and yourself by crossing steel."
