Illi stops reading to look up at L'Orr briefly. But she quickly shoves her nose back in the book. No need to be rude, Illiam!

''The dead are just that. They will not miss their cerebrum especially when the killer can be stopped from making further victims''

"Perhaps. But I'd rather bury the victims. The carrier of the coin was cremated." She forced herself to not be a hypocrite. Was the Illithid really that different from her? "But if you happen onto the next victim before me, I of course can't stop you. Though there is a good chance that their brains were equally washed clean. Only the grin remained."

''If the victim's brains are fresh enough, I can extract information as I devour them'' they proposed ''That is a strategy they might not see coming''

"So, I wasn't an unwitting devourer of vital information after all. Both a disappointment and a relief. The former because it feels like a dead end then. Whoever the murderer is, they are covering their tracks carefully even as the murders are replete with some inscrutable symbolism..."

(they will explain that)

OOC:
There's a clarification I should probably do, there's bite marks in both the physical properties of the coin, as well as it's metaphysical essence, and the very context of it ever having been.

These are most likely from different sources.

"I suppose that at least indicates that whoever put the coin in the man's mouth, likely the murderer, is a creature with a long fiendish pedigree?"

''You bit it?'' the illithid asked, curious ''The spell reveals nothing beyond whet appears to be a theft...either from the object or the creature it belonged to. Time and memory were eaten like one would do with food. I side effect from your...tasting?''

The illithid returns the coin

''At any rate there is evil in that grin.''

Odd...This has been tempered with. It is as if what knowledge was inside got removed. Eaten. There are bite marks around the edge they pointed out the teeth marks

"Perhaps something more is needed"

The coin still on the air, the illithid wizard began drawing a spell

Magic fumbles here. Just the numb ragged edges of missing history. Someone stole something from this thing, or perhaps form the creature it belonged to. Just gobbled up time and memory like food. The evil gleam of the grin unnerves you.
