"Yes, let's visit Sister Cade in the morning. As for the motive, it is probably something that requires masses of raw power to work, an otherwise unattainable fantasy."

L'Orr-hui wandered around the room

''There is an angle we are missing, as well as several key intelligence. The book's trail might give some part of it all. The wizard's library might reveal their fallback place on Toril. I do not expect much but a motive for the initial theft could be enlightening.''

"Although, back on the trail of that berk droppin' the codex, barkeep down in Suicide Alley did mention Sister Cade. If he did lose it, she might have it.

Though I can't 'magine why she would use it against the Society. Maybe whichever god she's worshiping these days has issue with a good ol' bacchanalia.

Probably too late to pay her a visit tonight, but we should swing by in the mornin'."

"He was there, no mistakin' that. Might've had some Anarchist lackeys helpin' out.

Still on the fence 'bout Anarchist posin' as Rilmani or Rilmani posin' as Anarchists though."

''Can we know for sure that the one who killed John is Silentblade?''

"It's plausible?"

"The murder's not all that mysterious to me. What you described from before the 'prentice joined the dead-book matches with the hooded perv, a.k.a. Silentblade. He managed to hit me with an arrow durin' our little scuffle, so he had a weapon matchin' what was used on John. Talkin' in his brain-box 'bout the balance definitely matches with what little interaction I've had with the berk.

The thing 'bout the Rilmani is they don't place much value in our or even their own lives when it comes to maintain' the balance. Don't know if Silentblade nicked Rhaunades or if the efreeti gave him the rope, but the 'prentice was between either tossin' the codex or bein' taken over by it. Either way, it didn't fit into their plans. With somethin' like the codex in play, if you aren't goin' along with the plan, then you're a threat to it and we know how they deal with threats.

It's what happened to the codex after that's 'scapin' me. If Silentblade took it, then why attack the Society with it a few days later?"

Thaddeus is quiet a few moments as he tries to make sense of the course of events. "You know, when that berk was wigwagging through his little 'lusion, he kept walking into walls and things. What're the chances he dropped the codex and someone else picked it up?"

"I am not sure of it at all. Perhaps the Rilmani have not been involved at all in the murder, and we've been thrown onto a false trail."

L'Orr-hui repeated the information in their head

''Something does not add up. Are we sure the cuprilach and Silentblade are one and the same?''

"I've scanned the dark of the Codex itself." She checked if she had the attention of both, then presented the facts as well as she could, without much speculative addenda. Her dead seriousness helped convey the enormity of the Codex's powers. In different circumstances she would wonder if there was wisdom in educating an Illithid arcanist about such powers but at this point she had no guarantee the tome was in any better hands.

[I was said to have learnt the Wiki entry.]

"...The powers of the Codex are somehow constrained in Sigil, however, by the Lady's prohibitions against wanton summoning and planeswalking."
