"I wouldn't be so sure about that. The Sensates won't be satisfied with this, and I wouldn't put it past them to strike out somehow. Appeasement and communication might keep them at bay in the short term, but I doubt it's a permanent solution without Thaddeus on board."

The moral implications didn't really bother Cyprian as much as having to choose between two people he cares about. He kept his head down and followed along. All the while worrying about what comes next.

_______
Oh I'm not throwing shade I'm just stating facts. This is an irresponsible track. Had I played the other character I was considering he'd approve just for the knowledge that could be gleaned from eating this guy's brain.

"First things first, Cyprian. The damage done cannot be undone. There will be time, death is patient. My prime responsibility is to prevent further violent calamities, and the path to it isn't through attempting to satisfy the Sensates, whatever exponential their hurt to the actual harm. There is no silver arrow in dealings with entities like the Codex of the Infinite Planes. We have witnessed a string of failures in doing so by various individuals, both stupid and wise. Here we have it, in an accountable place in the hands of a diligent man whose philosophies hardly emphasise self-aggrandisement but serving others instead. It may still go wrong, but that's why I want us here with him to prevent that. I don't have the ego to assume that in my hands the tome would misbehave less. In fact, having spent hours researching the past of the tome, I distrust everyone with strong desires to lay their hands on it."

[I was pretty forthright about Akh's approach to the problem since the very first post of this thread. As we proceeded, I have communicated Akh's disagreement to Thad's methods as well. To go along with what Thad wanted would require of me to stop playing my character and just drift along. I apologise for not making it clear enough OOCly ahead of the scene.]

She turned to Ridnir.

"The mortician's job first. Where do you keep the bodies?"

"Thaddeus..." He watches his friend leave helplessly, "...I don't like this." He says not looking at either of them. "But you are both wiser and more far-seeing than I."

He falls in beside Akh.

This was never the plan, it just evolved. Now with you leaving, so leaves the responsible voice. Let's continue please.

Seeing that the others would not see reason, the satyr would concede. "Fine. Have it your way then."

Thaddeus will leave the hospital.

Would've been nice to have some discussion IC or OOC that this was the route we wanted to take. From all the other discussions it had seemed to me we wanted to remove the tome from whoever had it. I would've gone into this very differently if I had known. Thanks for the scene.

I see. they give a nod towards the party and the doctor Now, can we agree on what lady Akh Uur Hoon proposed? When the good doctor wants to study the Codex, Lady Akh Uur Hoon comes to help with the clinic and I assist the research to make sure Doctor Ridnir keeps well. Yes?

"Very little." He says bluntly. "But the book also offers histories and other knowledges. Recorded history, insights, understanding. This is a history book equally as it is a powerful item."

Akh wouldn't give up on the opening. She understood Cyprian's concerns but perhaps knowing her as he did he could figure out her angle. She kept addressing Ridnir.
Akh has advantage on all charm, and persuasion rolls with Cyprian. And given that the honeymoon bonus will be in effect for the foreseeable future she also has a plus ten to all checks on top of her natural modifier. But not getting an answer would concern him. "Akh?" He'd repeat, "I get that you enjoy helping people. But there are further concerns that need addressing. Also we probably should discuss reparations for damage done during the festival. People were hurt and buildings were damaged. Regardless of intention the doctor can't get away scot free."

The illithid steeples his fingers, his invisible eye still wandering about.

''I do wonder, what is the relevance of planar knowledge to the functions of the flesh?''

"Something to consider. I can always use more assistants, but as the experiments are my own, and application is just as important as research, I would still need to work. Though, having someone here who understands anatomy wouldn't be terrible."

"Then I hope in return you can trust me to stick around and have your back if things go outward. I am sure I can occupy myself well here. If there are any doubts about my professional integrity and competence, you can inquire Master Tansar or the Dead directly. Surely you have fresh bodies to properly bury and common medical cases to handle, giving you more time for the Codex-related explorations. We can agree that the quicker it is, the better for everyone."
