In the absence of ser Fyne, the voyage to Istus's domain had been postponed until the next day. L'Orr-hui was uncomfortable to let such a thing linger but for the moment they believed the city needed their presence.

It was during that time that Cyprian had agreed to showcase some of his own songs in opening for the Free League's Factol. He took the stage comfortably and tuned his lute. His heart raced as he looked out over the semi-interested crowd and he challenged himself to make at least a few fans among them.

He started with some of his older sets. The first few notes got the Inn's attention, and thankfully throughout the course of the performance he kept it. It felt good to be on the stage, and he wanted to close out his set with his latest composition:

"A week or so ago I arrived in Sigil humming this song. My portal for some reason opened up hilariously in this Inn's own broom closet." A few laugh having been there at the time. "Gods that was proper embarrassing. As such I feel you all are deserve to hear the song that brought me to you." He readjusts the straps of his lute. "Any complaints, take it up with Loki."

Le Snip

L'Orr-hui was taking a break from taking in complaints and suggestion when they heard the song the midgard bard chose to interpret. The illithid was puzzled by the choice of lyrics.

''Red? I do not think that color is the most appropriate for the theme but perhaps it is a cultural nuance from your world I fail to see''

Could be heard in the expatriate's mind after the number

Surprise Illithid voice. Cyprian looked around after the bow. Then upon finding L'Orr he walked over and joined him. Behind him the stage was getting set up for Bria.

"Red is the color of death in certain parts of Midgard." He shrugged, "Mainly in the vampire kingdoms. In Zobeck it's white, but that really just didn't seem to fit the melody." He smirked. "Now I'm curious, what's the color of death here?"

[L'Orr-hui]

''Black or white are the usual colors'' the illithid replied ''I do think white would have been better for the melody if still odd for the context.''

"Well, everyone's a critic I guess." He rolled his eyes with a good natured grin. "Gah, well it's a double entendre if you must know. From one view point the subject is dead inside and living every day with the intention to die. Then there's the other view point and..." He smirks, "... well, saying more might be improper."

He swiftly changes the subject

"So what brings you hear? Can I buy you a drink?"

[L'Orr-hui]

''I know what you might imply as I understand the wanderings of your mind, ser Cyprian.'' they sighed ''I thank you for the offer but I seldomly consume intoxicants and never while I work. But feel free to order for yourself.''

A few parchment rolled and stored themselves has they conversed

''I am doing some work for the Free League, aggregating opinions and such.''

Cyprian sighed. "Yes, better than most I'm afraid to say." Had he a lower shame threshold he might blush. As it stands he's not even sure if he can.

"Are there benefits to joining the Free League?" He asked honestly. "I like being unaffiliated because I can do jobs for everyone. But I really, really like what your faction stands for."

[L'Orr-hui]

''Interesting question, more interesting framing. Let's start at the beginning...'' they answered before frowning and formulating their thought on the matter ''To many the Free League is not a true faction: At best we are viewed more a more organized group of unaffiliated then anything like the powers of Sigil.''

A very professorial pause

''They are wrong, of course, but also right. The unaffiliated value freedom and independence as we do but we diverge on one crucial matter: They perceive it as something inherently personal while we recognize it as being also communal. We all view freedom in a different way but we know that we can only achieve and keep it if we do so together. Solidarity, if you will. This philosophical axiom is why we are very much like the other factions of Sigil despite having a very different structure.''

They tilted their head

''While not what you asked for, is this rough explanation of who we are satisfactory thus far? The philosophy of a faction it what you join in the end.''

[Cyprian Kircheis]

"I see." He thought very seriously. "If that's the case then the only thing keeping me from being Free League is perhaps initiation." He leans back in his chair. "I know that there are benefits to being a dustman, or a sensate. Neither of which appeal to me. And I certainly appreciate the philosophy of... libertarianism?"

He scratches at his stubble.

"But I also know that factions are constantly suspicious of each other. Therefore signing on with the Free League might inhibit my ability to work with other factions. Which I definitely don't like the idea of." He looks at L'Orr, "Unless the Free League are... exempt from this?"
