Hooks:
  • Bureaucratic pawn, for all your legal paperwork needs***.
  • Armored knight of mending flesh and steel, for this is not the City of Niceness.
  • Working on a theoretical model of reality that would have it fit nicely in little squares. Obviously an oversimplification, a lie. But maybe a good enough lie for accurate enough prediction of one's next moves.
  • Technically old nobility. Family owns a manor far more comfortable than current lodgings in a remote location. Old blood sadly does not necessarily come with good money in these days of perpetual land price inflation.
  • Chess player (to no one's surprise).
*There likely exist skeletons with thicker limbs, vampires with skin less pale.
**As appears on banners and shields. Usually simplified to en passant when used in speeches, battle cries, and the like.
***Fees and delays might apply.

Name: Akh Uur Hoon
Race: Illumian
Origin: Elirhondas, Plane of Shadow
Faction: Dustmen
Occupation: Trauma Therapist
Age: Forever Young
Height: 5'7"
Build: Skinny
Skin: Pale
Hair: Old Gold
Eyes: Shaded Sky

What's known:

The Illumian woman has been with the Dustmen for a time now, long enough to be recognised as a relative fixture of Sigil's street life. She stands out from her gloomy folk in many ways, however, being calmly outgoing, compassionate, and generally appealing. Her main calling seems to be seeking out broken souls clinging to tragedies that trap them in spiritual deadlocks, and helping them out in moving on, hopefully toward True Death. Her own progress toward it might be conditioned in complex ways but she doesn't wear that story on her sleeve. Seldom can she be found in the Mortuary as she spends most of her apparently sleepless life in the city streets.

Looks:

Her looks seem as of yet not too compromised by her affiliation; instead of being desiccated, she just leans skinny, without visible challenge to her feminine appeal, except for some shades under her eyes. The halo of symbols swirling around her golden hair remains cryptic to most, doubly so for being relatively dim, flaring up only occasionally these days, though two or three glyphs in the carousel stand out as bigger and brighter. Her loose robes are neither drab nor fair, and not meant to accentuate. If there's something to distinguish her from the crowd, it is her gentle smile and a clear gaze free from scowling, sweeping all before her as if it was at least partially translucent.

Hooks:
  • All things Illumian
  • Ancient tomes, dead languages, lost libraries, Netherese lore...
  • Any Shadow Plane experiences?
  • Any emotional attitudes toward the Githyanki?
  • Is your soul messed up? We may have something in common...
  • Trauma, suffering, agony, death? I am here for you.
  • Consensual stuff is consensual.
  • I am an eschatologist, I guess. Amid Dustmen, I choose Dhall.
  • Barovia...

Name: Cyprian Valdemar Kircheis
Race: Dhampir
Origin: Midgard
Faction: "I was just leaving!"
Occupation: Bard
Age: Looks 20ish, maybe?
Height: 6'3"
Build: Skinny
Skin: Pale
Hair: White
Eyes: Pale Blue

Image

At a glance:

Like most bards he's flamboyantly dressed. Sporting a feathered cap, a leather cotte, and knee high riding boots. His gaze is striking and his features are soft. In conversation he tends to pontificate. Though some might find him charming, or mistake his confidence as gallant. In truth he's an aloof, pretty boy-

"And a complete blowhard!" Says one tavern goer. "If it moves he flirts with it. And if you do take him home beware: He likes to nibble a little too roughly. Gave me a hickey that took forever to vanish!"

"I'll admit he is cute." Tells another, "And he plays a mean lute. But he's dumb as dirt and won't shuttup about some bloke named Straud! I'm starting to think he fancies 'im."

What's known:

Not much. He's a newcomer, runs around like a fish out of water. If you've ever been to Midgard you might know some of his songs. 'Melancha', being one of his more popular tunes. Though it is a shockingly OLD song. 'Just how old is this guy?!'

Hooks:
  • Do people recoil at your toothy grin? We should speak at length some time! I happen to be a connoisseur of vino vitae!
  • Want to talk musical theory? Compare instruments? Or just jump right in to a hot jam session? You take bottom, I'll take top!
  • Spent any time in Barovia? Perhaps you've heard of me!
  • Know a way back to Midgard? Help me!

Post by Gabriel Morningstar » Sun Jul 09, 2023 7:13 am

Name: Gariel Morningstar
Race: Tiefling (Zarielish, for those who are in the know)
Origin: Avernus (born and raised as far as he knows)
Faction: Mercykiller
Occupation: Recruiter for the Armies of Asmodeus in the Blood War against the Abyssal Chaos!
Age: early 30-s
Height: 182 cm
Build: svelte, ready for a bruising
Skin: Pale
Hair: Red, copper, not blood
Eyes: Green

Description:
A muscular warrior with a few noticeable aspets of his infernal heritage - his horns, a forked tongue, and an unusual heat in the air around him - Gabriel is usually well groomed to serve in his aspect as an envoy of Hell's Army. For those that can glance beneath his armor, there are afew noticeable scars from his time in the Blood War, but it is the usual assortment of a veteran of his calibre. He speaks with a precise tone in a deep baritone, and smiltes quite a lot.

He has taken residence in one of the offices of the Prison, the Mercykillers local headquarters. He serves there as a Justice, administering it by interpreting the bylaws of his guild. Unsurprisingly, quite a few punishments result in going to hell, though not as many as most would suspect. He is a stickler for the rules. Besides his work as a Justice, he also spends time helping others in return for some manner of infernal compensation. He holds martial classes for those in need, even willing to act as muscle as long as the request is within the laws. Offers sage advice, and even more esoteric requests have been granted.

Rumors:
"Ah, good ole Gabriel. He helped me and the missues out from quite a tight spot. Only asked for me firstborn's soul for his war. What're you looking at me like quite?! You know the first one is always a spoilt little shit! By the time they get to call in on that favor, I'll be tired of the eldest and ready to focus on the ones that matter and arent spoilt little shits!"

"Sir Morningstar is quite the avid reader! The other day he came into my store, browsing the selection. He bought what you would expect, mostly...you know, legal philosophy, the classic book on war from Zpp Br'nigan...oh, and the latest Harlequin and Harbringer book! I didn't know he was quite so into romance!"

"You wouldn't think an infernal veteran would tip so well, but he gave me a pretty nice one last time he ate here! Just have to be willing to wait his sermon out on the Abyssal Chaos or something. Nice fellow. That tongue is weird though."

Name: Gizby Brightshadow
Race: Neimhiem Gnome
Origin: Midgard
Faction: The Dustmen
Occupation: Leatherman
Age: 200
Height: 3'6
Build: gaunt
Skin: Pale
Hair: White
Eyes: Gray

Image

At a glance:

Gizby stands a proud 3'6, well above average if you ask him. Exceptionally average if you look at genetic statistics. A gaunt, pale looking gnome, Gizby is clad in leather: Leather boots, leather pants, leather belt, leather waistcoat, leather wizard's duster, leather bracelets, a leather hat with some dirt and an unfortunately withering, sad little plant "growing" from it, and of course, leather underpants. Purely cosmetic, on closer inspection, one can tell they'd just as quickly stop the tip of a blade as they would a boulder from a catapult. Despite their lack of protection, intricate geometric designs can be admired in their craftsmanship.

Before you notice the leather-clad Gnome's regalia, you'll likely smell him coming. He wouldn't say his adverse to bathing, he just can't be buggered. Besides, most soaps are inferior to his own product, but he'd much rather craft leathers.

Rumors:

"I hear he uses unusual methods for his products... but their so fine, I don't want to know."
"Mrs. Willarford says she saw 'im smackin' his teef on a haunch o' meat that looked rather 'aged,' it did."

Hooks:
Life is silly, death is even sillier. Get on Gizby's good side, and you might end up a thrall in another life. Do you enjoy a nice cookout in a cool, damp, unhygienic catacomb? Invite Gizby! Interested in acquiring a fine leather piece for yourself or a friend? Gizby's 100% all natural, hand-crafted and curated leathers make excellent gifts for all occasions! Stop by Gizby's Emporium of Exotic Leathers in the market district any day of the week, Tell 'im you want something special.

Post by Amelie Crane » Mon Jul 17, 2023 11:43 pm

Name: Amelie Crane
Race: Aasimar
Origin: Sword Coast (Faerun)
Faction: Mercykillers
Age: 19
Height: 5'9
Build: Slender
Skin: Fair
Hair: White
Eyes: Golden

Looks:
Despite a bright and sunny appearance, Amelie can often seem cold and hard to the average passerby on the streets of Sigil. A quiet woman, most often in public wearing a dark leather highway man, her face hidden by a standing leather collar, and beneath a tricorn. She carries a gleaming rapier with 7 topaz stones inlaid in the shape of the sun in the hilt, as well as a hand crossbow and a bag of books and trinkets. From her neck hangs a muted golden holy symbol - one very old by the looks of it. It is also in the shape of a sun, and hangs from a thin golden chain. Her voice is kind, but intonation often harsh. The sort that comes from one who has learned to be harder than is their nature.

What's known:
Amelie is a newcomer to Sigil, being sent to accompany and keep an eye on their friend and companion Illiam. Very shortly after arriving, they fell in with the Mercykiller faction, the line of work not being dissimilar to the sort of work that she did on the Sword Coast before her departure. The daughter of a well-known inquisitor, and also the chosen of a deity, she has always had big shoes to fill, and very often little desire to do so.
Apart from her vague history, what she has been recognized for is her skill. With an exceptionally keen set of eyes, a quick blade, and a mind even quicker, she has made a name for herself in just a short time as a competent Justice within her faction.

Hooks:
- In need of someone to investigate some strange disturbances? (stranger than the usual)
- Need someone to help track down a loose criminal and turn them to the Harmonium?
- Interested in a partner to spar with, either with swords or lorebooks?

Name: Rena
Race: Human
Origin: "Sigil" (Dropped through a portal as a baby)
Faction: Bleak Cabal
Rank: Bleaker
Build: Average
Age: 23
Occupation: Professional Thief
Height: 5'6”

Description: In addition to the dark leather armor she usually wears, she can also often be found bearing a gloomy expression. With straight dark hair kept neat and a hooded cloak over her shoulders, lately she has found little reason to ornament herself otherwise.

Public Knowledge: If something is missing without a trace and someone dusted the shelves on the way out, it’s possible that Rena took it, typically because someone paid her to. While she keeps some business associates and colleagues, she has kept fewer friends in recent days, preferring to maintain her distance. She prefers to work solo, but she has been known to team up temporarily for a particularly challenging job. When she isn’t working, she can be found walking the streets of the hive or tending to one of the Cabal’s soup kitchens.

Also, she’s gay.

Rumors: Things haven’t been the same for her ever since her old crew kicked her out.

While she joined the Bleak Cabal about a year ago, she has shown very little interest in advancement but consistently turns up to do her part and contribute, donating a portion of her income to keep the kitchens stocked.

Hooks: Loves animals, feeds colonies of stray cats, will spend an entire day trying to return a lost pet to their owner.
Known stealer of shinies, has a few contacts in the business, might know someone who knows someone, or someone might know her.
Sees directing newcomers to the Cage as part of her responsibilities, but that doesn’t mean she won’t mess with out-of-towners just a little bit.

Name: Quevlin'e Eilsandar
Race: Drow
Origin: Toril's Underdark
Faction: Factionless
Occupation: Bodyguard
Age: 154
Height: 6'4"
Build: Elven brick shithouse
Skin: Dark Grey
Eyes: Purple

"She's also tiny and as intimidating as a kitten. That's probably why her bodyguard follows her around like he's her damn shadow. You can usually see Quevlin'e towering over Illiam scowling through his helmet at anyone who looks at her a little funny. That, or he's tormenting her for his own amusement. Double standards much?" - random servant in the Moondancer household that may or may not have disappeared the following day.

Description

Quev is a large elf clad head to toe in a suit of pitch black full plate with a blood red cape. He keeps his shield drawn when he can, but his spear, which doubles as his walking stick, will always be in hand. On the left breast is a brooch with the Moondancer family crest, a crescent moon encircling a blooming blue rose. On the very rare occasion that he goes unhelmed, he wears a permanent scowl. Until he decides to be a gremlin and mess with Illia. In which case, he'll allow himself a smirk.

Public Knowledge

Quev dropped into Sigil along with Illia. He follows Illia around as her silent guardian. When he does deign to speak, it is low and raspy. He communicates mainly through sign language and lets Illia translate for him.

Skin: Lavender with sparkling frecklesFaction: "Huh?"
Eyes: Pink Philosophy: ?
Hair: Iridescent white Nature: ?
Speaking voice: Girlish and saccharine Demeanor: Earnest and playful (easily bully-able crybaby)

Appearance

For those in the know Illiam's very obviously Fey-touched. Her lavender skin literally sparkles; her emotions manifest themselves through her body, its glimmer dimming with sadness or bursting with psychedelic light when flustered. She can't really help it -- she's her mother's daughter. Her hair has an iridescent quality to it, too, one that refracts light like a prism. She just... shines. In Abeir-Toril her strange looks were simultaneously a blessing and a curse; here in Sigil it's just whatever. You see plenty of weird shit in Sigil. Nobody cares except maybe to con you or rob you or induct you into their weird pyramid scheme sex cult.

Her fashion sense is decidedly normalish for a Faerûnian drow. Illiam'iira is often seen sporting black satin dresses with blue rose accents and black accessories, though on rare occasions she wears white and pink. When she's worried for combat she wears a pink gambeson and purple-black velvet brigandine over her clothes.
A large brooch hangs off a long mithral chain around her neck, and on her left hand ring finger she wears a mithral signet ring; both prominently feature a crescent moon and blue rose. Most things she owns share that motif, including her sword, though it's strangely bound up in its scabbard by a long black satin ribbon tied in a bow.

What is Known

This flashy woman somehow stumbled her way into the City of Doors now of all times, hitting her head on the way down from the portal she fell through. When Illiam'iira woke she found herself robbed. Sigil and its politics are completely unknown to her, but she seems quite open to the place and its people and happy to lend a hand to those in need. Before returning home she seeks first to recover her inheritance -- any help on her quest is greatly appreciated!

Despite being a new arrival, Illiam's already got a pack to travel the city with: Quevlin'e and Amelie! She often acts as Quev's voice, interpreting his sign language for others, though more importantly she keeps his mischief in check. Her beloved cousin Amelie followed them into Sigil to help the two return home... yet you might already know her, how strange :)
Both can attest to the fact Illia is... to put it politely... a little bit of a loser. At least in Sigil nobody's expecting much of her! Yaaaaaaay! (Illiam, that shouldn't be a relief.)

Hooks
  • She has an inheritance to track down and retrieve! Illi will consider herself indebted to anyone who aids her. (Conversely, if your character just so happened to have recently come into possession of a high-quality gemstone from a shady dealer, she'll have some questions for them... "Can I pleeeeeeease have it back? Pretty pretty please?")
  • Do YOU need help? From washing dishes, butchering meat, mending clothes, changing diapers, sweeping floors, birthin' babies, to tending the sick... there's lots of work to do and this girl's more than willing to do it. Despite first impressions Illia is surprisingly comfortable with blood, shit, sick and filth as well as menial labor.
  • Do you know any good libraries? She likes research! Tell her bout them! Just don't ask her about the kid's books, fairytales, and romance novels she's checking out. That's private O.O
  • Do you like baking? Her too! Baking's a science like arcane magic, you follow the instructions and out comes tasty treats! Let's bake cakes together!
  • Are you a singer or a dancer? Let's sing and dance together!
  • If you know where any kittens or puppies are you're legally obligated to tell her. If your familiar is really cute you're also legally obligated to tell her. She likes looking at cute things. (Though her idea of cute doesn't always line up with others' expectations... she also gets really excited about spiders and snakes and wolves and flumphs and mice and rats and that ugly weird old cat that you think might be half-dead.)
  • Do you know how to have fun in Sigil? Please tell her! From dancehalls to urban exploration to petting zoos to hookah, Illiam'iira loves having a good time, especially with good company. Sigil's weird and wild and scary, but it's fun and beautiful in its own way, and she's determined to make the best out of a bad situation and enjoy her time here.
  • Always happy to give hugs, comfort, and aid in any time of need, no questions asked. The suffering and pain of others is something she can't ignore & Illi won't mention it again if it seems inappropriate to do so. Legit -- always feel free to PM me if a character needs IC help or comfort, if we can make it logically work, she'll show up and help out. It's part of her religion + philosophy and something that matters to her and her character.
OOC, I would love for Illi to get at least one thread in with every character in the game!

does not wait to be done by perfect souls.

Image

Physical Description

Unfortunately, Felisha is just short enough to sometimes be mistaken for a child when seen from a distance. Coming after her with a broom to shoo her away is a surefire way to put her in a raunchy mood -- and just might trigger a full-blown Harmonium raid on said establishment for, uhm -- unspecified -- illegal activities. Either way, her dhampir-given predatory glares can freeze a veteran's blood. If she gets angry enough. The good news is that it almost never happens. Few things truly anger her. Instead, she seems to glide through life without a care in the world. Some might find her cavalier attitude irritating, but make no mistake, she's as serious a person as they come. Outside of the celestials themselves, there are few who can rival her seemingly feral beauty, her thick and wild mane of curls lending her an exotic, almost primal appearance that seems at odds with her aristocratic speech patterns. Regardless, Felisha is neither vain or conceited, seemingly unaware of her allure even when it could be put to use.

She has no marks or tattoos; the only piercings Felisha possesses are the standard ear-piercings that most girls receive when they are young. Very few people would know her as "Felisha" and she almost invariably goes by her vocational name of "Mysti." Calling her "Felisha" without explicit permission is likely to get one skewered. Especially in public. Most of the time, she will be dressed all in black, though the styles will often change. Only when protocol "suggests" it would she dress in bright or flashy colors. Last year, an angry barkeep -- knowing Mysti's penchant for secrecy -- circulated a rumor that she was, in fact, the goddess Aphrodite kicking around Sigil in "mortal" form for some amusement. This caused her a great deal of unwanted attention, including from a cabal of worshipers that followed her everywhere. While said rumor has tapered off as more interesting rumors about other people have since come to light, bringing up Aphrodite is another sore spot and will likely earn gossips and conspiracy theorists a scathing retort such as, "How does someone as stupid as you even function in modern society?"

Public Knowledge and Potential Rumors

  • Overall, there is very little information regarding the person known simply as Mysti. Even her real name appears to be shrouded in secrecy.
  • Given that her very name is half of the word "mystery," it would seem she is very careful about the information people know about her.
  • She is often seen either in the Lady's Ward -- at the City Barracks the Liberty Hall Tavern -- or at the Great Gymnasium. Some believe she may have a small but well-appointed home or apartment above one of the taverns there.
  • She is either an agent of the Harmonium -- or she is a full-fledged member. No one is quite sure which, and this has sparked many a debate amongst those who monitor the comings and goings of the so-called "Hardheads."
  • There are signs and flyers around the city advertising her services as a bounty hunter, infiltrator, and investigator -- all of which, at the very least, gives one an idea of what she does for a living.
  • Those who have spoken with her say that she is not a typical Harmonium. In fact, she is a strident supporter of freedom and opposes fascism and authoritarianism. However, she does not support rampant anarchy which may give an indication as to why she has, at the very least, allied herself with the Harmonium faction.
  • Those same people claim that she has a quiet way about her -- she speaks in a soft, velvety voice that is almost hypnotic. While her accent is difficult to place -- the well-traveled say Midgard -- she has genteel, sophisticated mannerisms. Some believe she may have been a member of the aristocracy back on her home plane. Whatever the case, those who have dealt with her say she is far from a rube or typical Hardhead brute. She has a keen wit and wicked sense of humor that makes her seem almost fun-loving and adventurous.
  • If Mysti has any friends or family in Sigil, no one has ever seen her with any of them. Those few people she has engaged with have all been business associates -- and when business was complete, so was their association. The consensus is that this is by Mysti's choice since all accounts say she is a pleasant person to be around -- despite her rather nefarious occupation.
  • A rumor that has since been proven true is that Mysti is one hell of a flute player. When she can, she'll perform with bards and musical troupes in various bars and taverns across the city. This doesn't happen very often, but she seems to truly enjoy it.

"I cannot believe you used my non-quote as a quote. You were not supposed to do that!"

Possible Hooks

  • From a sign in The Hive: "Abusive husband? Cheating wife? Recalcitrant Child? These and many more issues that cause unwanted drama can be solved with the simple application of -- well, that would be up to you!"
  • From a sign in The Great Bazaar and The Armory: "Buried Treasure? Ancient Ruins? Mazes and Labyrinths? Crumbling Tombs? Does Your Village Need Defending? Should you and your group of intepid explorers need assistance in navigating such places in relative safety, contact "Mysti" at the Liberty Hall Tavern in the Lady's Ward. Or leave a message with the doorman at the Golden Bariaur Inn. Mysti will happily join your party of adventurers in exchange for a fair share of the findings ..."
  • If there's something that needs stolen - whether it's a knitting needle from some old crone's table in a shack to the crown jewels of a kingdom, the challenge itself is worth the reward.
  • If there are victims of false imprisonment, unfair trials, tampered-with juries, corrupt politicians and law enforcement officers -- Mysti will try to set things right. She believes in actual justice, not merely "following the law."
  • Mysti arrived in Sigil quite by accident, essentially activating a one-way portal while playing an ancient naval song on her flute. Thinking the portal would allow her to come back, she has been stranded in Sigil for over two decades. Though now she calls Sigil home, she's always looking for a two-way portal back to Midgard.
