Foxy Lady [Day 6, Late Afternoon, Not Planning on Company, but it's a public space- Task 1]

Ikkit had taken some pains, prior to entering the Fortune's Wheel, to put in some effort. He hadn't gone to the bathhouse or anything, but he wore his cleanest clothes, had sponged off the worst of the grime- and left Fekt back in the terrarium. He didn't feel like bringing his tiny friend to this one.

And just in case things went poorly, he'd left some written instruction for Illi-amiira about how to circumvent the worst of his security measures to make sure Fekt wouldn't starve.

Not that he really expected anything too unpleasant from Shemeshka, of course, but she was a yugoloth.

As he entered, he quietly dropped a note with his observations on Corcino movements the night before into a wastebasket, and saw one of the usual tieflings quietly ambling over to clear the bin. It wasn't exactly subtle, but that was part of the point.

He made his way to the bar (dodging more than one stupid giant), climbed atop a bar stool, and included the pass phrase with his drink order.

And then he waited to see if Shemeshka the Marauder could pencil him into her daily schedule.

In the softening embrace of the late afternoon sun, a curious wanderer found themselves stepping through the elegant archway that marked the entrance to Fortune's Wheel, nestled within the refined expanse of Sigil's Lady's Ward. The Lady's Ward, known for its opulence and sophistication, provided the perfect backdrop for this enigmatic establishment, and one in which you as a goblin, despite dressing all proper, would still stand out in. The polished cobblestones underfoot seemed to bear a special luster, mirroring the anticipation that danced in the air. A gentle breeze carried faint notes of exotic spices and incense, creating an atmosphere of intrigue that beckoned the visitor inward. The façade of Fortune's Wheel exuded an air of understated elegance, with its intricate carvings and understated golden accents, giving just a hint of the marvels that lay beyond its doors.

Stepping over the threshold, the newcomer was immediately enveloped in an ambiance of enchantment. The interior was a symphony of soft, diffused lighting that played upon rich, velvety fabrics and intricately patterned carpets. The air hummed with the low murmur of conversation, a blend of hushed tones that bore tales from across the planes—whispers of lost loves, grand adventures, and the age-old struggle between fate and free will. Booths and tables adorned with lush draperies were occupied by a diverse array of patrons, each immersed in their own contemplations.

Yet, the focal point of this beguiling scene was the titular Fortune's Wheel, standing resplendent at the heart of the establishment. The wheel, ornately adorned with runes and symbols, stood as a beacon of possibility—a promise of fortunes made or futures glimpsed. Patrons clustered around the contraption, their faces reflecting the gamut of emotions: hope, trepidation, and the thrill of uncertainty. As the sun's last rays painted the sky in shades of warm orange and deep violet, the Fortune's Wheel came to life with an almost palpable energy. The air was alive with the tinkling of laughter, the soft strumming of a minstrel's lyre, and the occasional gasp of triumph or disappointment. It was a sanctuary for those who sought answers, riches, or simply a momentary escape from the intricacies of existence.

For you, however, a fortune you did seek, but not from that sort of gambling. You, instead wish to deal with the devil herself...well, the daemon herself. She sits up top of the establishment with her Tieflings and her mirror, looking down with a drink in hand and a gaze upon the scene below. It doesn't take much for you to get entry.

In fact, it was like she was already expecting you with how they simply let you up, rather than check with anyone upstairs about it.

Ikkit approached and removed his hat, sketching a rough bow that would likely have given many of his associates a heart attack- not so much that he'd show respect, but that he knew how to bow that way.

"H'lo, Shemeshka. I 'ppreciate th'audie'nce, I know you've got a fair few concerns goin'."

He stood back up to his full, towering 3'6" height, and switched to Infernal.

"I thought perhaps we might converse in a more precise language than Common. We could also try Celestial, if you prefer."

"Aren't you the little linguist?" There was a wide smirk on her face, almost a sort of sick glee to speak the language of the angels, the tone in which she speaks it is in a sort of mocking tone.

"Well, no matter. I assumed you would be along eventually. I presumed it may have had to to do with that discussion we had with our mutual friend yesterday, though the language change has me curious now." She turned her head and smiled. "What is it I can do for you, Ikkit?"

Ikkit's own tone was also amused, albeit a bit more gently so.

"I find it advantageous to be conversant in planar lingua franca- growing up in this city, it pays off, not that you need me to tell you that."

He paused, then gave a sigh of mock-regret.

"Alas, I fear I must still pay Tensar, as your suggested alternative proved... rather incapable of comprehending the nature of respect. I simply couldn't saddle the guild with a public face so adept at picking unnecessary fights, particularly with those it is far better to have as friends. Can you forgive me?"

His grin was, well... appropriately fiendish, and it was plain he considered the question a rhetorical one.

"But on to business. I presume you are aware of the ongoing investigation- one which that little experience we all witnessed was so helpful in assisting. I won't ask why it was in your interest for me to know, but I would like to know if there are any courses of action you would have me avoid in the course of assisting the others."

He paused. Switched back to common.

"After all, seems t'me I'm best off not repeatin' th'mistakes others make 'round me."

"Well, a pity. She had talent and could have been useful. Well, we needn't concern ourselves with her for much longer. Those problems, always seem to take care of themselves, without having to lift a single claw. In any case, I do hope that Tensar can accommodate your needs, then."

She nods without explaining further and moves on to other matters. ""As we both know what my dear friend was up to, I feel as if, when the location of the book is discovered, that it should be returned to the Sultan. Being the honest sort that I am, of course, I would want something returned to me if it were stolen."

Image

Of course, they would be quite grateful for such noble actions, but that's not why we do nice things Ikkit. We do it because it's the right thing to do."

"And as an ethical salvager, I really do prefer to return stolen property to its rightful owner. One needs to set the proper example for one's nascent guild, after all."

He bowed to Shemeshka, his hat sweeping the floor.

"And if by adhering to principle, I can also bring some small happiness to someone who has done me many a good turn, well, sometimes the universe is most kind."

There's a large grin. "Never let it be said that a goblin can't understand the finer parts of proper courtesy. Or knowing when to be grateful. Don't worry, I know when to be grateful to for a favor, despite rumors to the contrary. "

The daemon smiled with a grin. "Find out what you can for me and let me know what I can do to be of further assistance for the return of the stolen property. Preferably before something larger occurs and some brave mages can't contain it again."

"Nat'rally."

He placed his hat back on his head.

"Now I know yer busy, so I thank y'for yer time, an' I'll get on that matter right quick."
