The flayer glanced towards the edge of the alley with a degree of disappointment

''I suppose I could forestall my nutrition for a while longer...ah...very well, I will lead your there. This will allow me to answer any questions you may have about this place''

"My thanks. A quick rundown of this place will be just fine. Though you mentioned it was likely a planar portal that brought us here. I presume we would be able to take one back. Who is the Lady?"

''The Lady of Pain is the ruler of Sigil. She is an unknowable entity of unthinkable power but not a deity...and it is taboo to worship her.'' they began

''Sigil itself it a planar metropolis, likely the biggest and best connected. There is a portal to everywhere here but the stability and portal keys are...varied in nature. If Sigil does not have a portal to a specific location it is because the Lady keeps the portal closed.''

"So, we would have to speak with this Lady to get back?"

[L'Orr-hui]

''Under no circumstances should you seek to meet with the Lady of Pain.'' they expressed harshly as they turned the corner to guide the clueless towards farhome ''She rules the city but does not govern it. The factions do. Should you wish to return home you have to research were to find the portal, if there is one, and a faction's pull can aid greatly. You could remain independant, of course, but you will have to do extra legwork.''

The mindflayer kept walking a few steps ahead, following a main artery lined with ramshackle habitations, various dingy commerces and an abundance of people in the throes of misery.
