First Impressions: The sounds and smells of various ethnic ghettos mingle in rather unpleasant ways with the sloshed gurgling and fetid smell of the Ditch, a river of sludge and waste dividing the Lower Ward from the Hive.

The Ditch is Sigil's single largest body of water. It intersects the Lower Ward and slowly and inexorably flows into the distance.
It's water is, at best, muddy and brackish with acids and blood, and at usual, riven with refuse, carcasses and broken tools and furniture. At some points it is more of a solid than a liquid.
In truth the Ditch is variable, sometimes the River Oceanus flows with vigour and cleansing energy through it, and much rejoicing is had by the hard living residents of the Lower Wards. Those days are rare indeed, but remembered with honey sweet thoughts.
Most of the time it ices over, is used as a dumping ground by the Guild of Teamsters and Fiends and everything in between. Sad things usually crawl along the banks of the Ditch. Collectors, barmies and other hard wrought beings usually. Sometimes strange things bubble up from the surface of the Ditch, and those who see them, are struck with greed or fear.
Patient, ever changing, and full of broken things, the Ditch flows on.
DM's Note: Any creature or object submerged in Ditch water takes 1d6 points of acid damage per minute of exposure. Even partial submersion is enough to deal damage.
