"One of the issues with living at the crossroad of the multiverse is that you've got close to an infinity of suspects. This is not some countryside village where there are at most one mage and one witch in the whole valley with enough crumbs of power to have maybe pulled such a scheme.

I would even hazard the guess that, had one of us two put the years into studying the Slaadi and forming the right connections with the right unsavory people, we ourselves would have been able to make such a mess.

As for motive, could be anything. There's a, factually false yet symbolically true, story than in some languages, the word for crisis and opportunity is the same."

"Even if the landscape is vast it doesn't mean the perpetrator moves without trace. If you prefer, some problems are not merely statistical, but game-theoretical. And we can try to play."

"I am afraid at this point I'll have to disappoint. I have no strong hypothesis you could pick apart, not even a certainty I should be the one to attempt to do anything about it. All I have is a hunch, which is very likely wrong. My hunch is that the will behind this all may be draconic in nature."

"And what inspired that hunch? I guess it didn't come to you in a dream. Though, since dreams can be divine inspiration or simply the brain finishing its thinking work during sleep, that wouldn't be a bad explanation."

"Initially, it was just a wild guess based on the assumption that a dragon morphing into a humanoid would likely keep its colour. After that, there came small things... It all may just be apophenic though." She produced a bone coin with a gruesome toothy grin on it, and nothing more. "Can you make anything out of it?"

"Numismatics are not a secret interest of mine. I could try to determine which animal supplied the raw material, which might in turn give a hint toward its origin if uncommon enough.

Though, not to abide by the cliché, but if there's one location in the city where you can specialists in making bones talk, metaphorically or not, I would have imagined we were standing in it at that very moment."

As you of two ponder the nature of chaos and what madness it brings , you happen to notice that one of the Chaosmen dropped something, Akh. Something...strange. It looks to be a stick of some kind with gems on it and a very faint glow on the surface.




Looks valuable, and they'll likely not be back for it.
