Re: Mockery of Names [Chaos Run Amuck, LM3]
Akh picked it up with a 'hmmmm'. Did it look like anything her studies might ever have touched on?

Nothing you are familar with. You could spend a little time and possibly attune with it to learn more, but that comes with its own risks. Attuning without knowledge of the item itself, especially something cursed, means you're stuck with it.

Akh was almost sure she had studied the incantations to identify objects of this kind at some point, and she could study it the mundane way as well. There were certainly also experts in this regard around, including some fellow Dustmen or the Mind Flayer. But she needed some time to think how best to approach the problem, remembering how she might have compromised key evidence by biting the coin she was just showing to Dare.

"Fancy stuff you've got there, whatever it actually is. In general, whoever is paying for all that chaos seems to have deep pockets.
The money trail might be easier to follow than the magical trail actually. People skilled in the arcane arts are not necessarily nearly as competent as hiding their mundane tracks."

In principle, that was a reasonable poin, but...
"I don't think I have the capacity to scrutinise such transactions. Do you?"

Re: Mockery of Names [Chaos Run Amuck, LM3]
"Depends on channels used. To simplify, I will class them in three broad categories: Legal, contraband, and big magical guns.
The first two I can look at, even if in part through proxies for the second.
The later, things like conjuring gold out of thin air, teleportation in Sigil from outside Sigil... It's more complicated."

"If the easier categories are excluded, it can at least be inferred that we're facing a greater power?"

"Oh, definitely. The silver lining of today's chaos is that it shouldn't be hard to persuade the office to unlock the necessary resources for a crack down on dangerous magical items circulating the city. Which, even it ends up of little impact on the current affair, should at least help prevent a few other tragedies in the making from unfolding."
