Professional Inquiries [Day 4, Late Afternoon]

Post by Ikkit the Bastard » Thu Aug 10, 2023 12:06 am

Ikkit had never been here before.

He'd never had to, since finding work was pretty easy for him most of the time.

But if he intended to get his Guild idea off of the ground, well...

It wouldn't hurt to touch base with a serious headhunter.

So, freshly scrubbed, wearing his least-befouled clothing, Ikkit the Bastard presented himself at Tensar's offices, with a sheaf of papers in hand.

The office is still opening, though it does appear to be at the tail end of the business day. Tensar sits at the front, shuffling thru a few papers before you arrival, and when you enter, he leans down and smiles warmly. "Ahh, welcome! Excellent! Have you come for a job, sir?"

Ikkiit removed his hat, and bobbed his head.

"Beggin' your pardon, sir, but I got a job. A steady one..."

He fished his salvager's license out and proffered it for the human to read over.

"I'm here on more compl'cated business, so if it's a bad time, I understand. It's just... I'm lookin' t'get a Guild started. Salvage an' cleanup in Sigil, maybe Gate Towns if we get it off the ground. Dunno. But a Guild needs workers. An' seems t'me apprentices do a fair bit, earn some honest scratch. So I could say I got an opening for one or two. An' anyone as has experience would be... well steered toward it."

Damn it, Ikkit, you're not good at this part, are you?

"So, uhm, Mister Tensar, I was hopin' we could... coord'nate that bit? Or that you might have some advice?"

The old redheaded man nods his head, giving you a once over before thinking it over.. "How could I not, my good man? A decent job and honest wages, not to mention cleaning up the mess around the rivers and improve the area?"

He immediately comes across the desk and extends his hand. "What's your name, son?"

Ikkit extended his own hand to shake Tensar's. The goblin seemed to visibly relax.

"Ikkit. Most folks 'round the Cage call me Ikkit the Bastard, mostly on account o' my not lettin' disrespect slide. I'm... just gettin' it started, mind. Salvagers ain't organized in Sigil, an we've spent years seein' each other as competition."

"Well, that much is true. With every man for themselves, it's going to be hard to get anywhere with it. It's either slim pickings or you get left with what Seamu...Sheamusxan....that Dust Mephit who sells animal parts over in the Market Ward. Suppose you've got no ideas on how to get them organized, then and under one flag, then?"

"I was thinkin'a approaching anyone I see at it and bringin' the idea up.... but the Cage is awful damned big, I'm sure I don't need t'tell you. I'm also gonna shop the idea to some high-ups, get the legal permissions, an' see it generates 'nough buzz t'get a turnout. "

He nodded to Tensar.

"An' anyone y'steer my way will get the chant, too. But I was thinkin' maybe postin' some bills- if they end up in the trash, so much the better, they'll reach the ones I wanna see."

He shrugged.

"But I ain't much of a leader, hells, half th' time I gotta bite people so they don't step on me, let 'lone listen to me. But I reckon a big enough job, with a big enough payout, might be more convincin'n I'd ever be. Big jobs need many hands. And we organize, we c'n stop fightin' over turf, start tryin' t'get better prices for what we salvage, and collect some jink for cleanup work. Th' good bits're there, I- we just gotta get it out."

"Sounds like you need to do; bring on someone who knows how to deal with people. Ideas people tend to be best behind the scenes. Just make sure it's someone you trust, but wouldn't recommend a friend. Friendship...tends to sour in buisness. Best to keep them on the sidelines and ask for help on occasion."

He shrugs. "I can see if there a few people on my lists who can fit the part, if you would like. Standard fees would occur, of course."

"If y'would. There's a Guvner writing some letters of introduction, but she's a bit... abrupt, an'a bit posh. Got a Dustman lady who's wishing the best, but might not be the best fit. What kinda fees would we be lookin' at?"

"Oh, you have a Guvner backing you? Very nice." He grabs a piece of paper and a quill to jot this down. "50 gold to start. If who I get is a fit for you, you hire them for a agreed upon salary. After that, I take 5% of that agreed salary from you for a year. As in, you pay me 5% of the agreed upon amount; I don't take it from their salary. If you terminate them, that ends the payment."
