Feature woke up in a much brighter mood, today. Well, it could be just all the lights just outside the Gatehouse as a group of berks carrying torches walked by, around, then inside. Maybe some of them were part of that group of Krynn refugees mentioned in the S.I.G.I.S a couple days back?
The monodrone laughed beepily and stood up at once. 60% chance they were... well, more like 90% that at least some of them were. At any rate at least a few would be refugees, from Krynn or elsewhere... there was never a shortage of poor sods without a clue of what to think or do here, and not only a few found their way to the Gatehouse while trying to find out - or when they found their bodies with a hole or two too many.
A quick stop at the kitchen - not so much to get something to eat as to greet companions, kind of a stress test of the improved mood today - and they went to the front, then to the infirmary. There'd be lots of work to do today, that much was clear.
... they just weren't exactly doing the right thing. Maybe it was the fact that they laughed at the face of the first two people almost dying who showed up before them, but most patients seemed to be avoiding them today...
For one of the patients, though, some half an hour after the start of the shift, the laugh had the opposite effect. It was... probably again at their face, maybe in spite of the tension? Although one could argue it was with them as the poor sod was making jokes non-stop, most about their own condition as they bled from a gash in their behind. The fact is that the laughter was contagious this time, and somehow it helped the poor sod feel better as he was patched up. And when that happened, the laughter spread through the main infirmary, then through the halls, and instead of the patients suspiciously walking away from Feature, they started seeming drawn to the source of laughter.
Lots of work indeed, but fun work was worth it!
