Sigil: The City of Doors

Fyne enters the church and moves to the donation box. He drops in a handful of silver coins that he made over the past couple of days. It's not a lot but he's happy with it. After that he moves to the central dais of the temple which has a few people surrounding it watching the head priest of the temple dance in worship of the Dark Maiden. He claps in appreciation, smiling fondly.

Lirrax seems to be enjoying the show as well, her head bobbing with the musical accompaniment.

"Excuse me mister, but would you be so kind as to tell me if I am indeed at the temple of the elven goddess of the stars?"

A whisper, uttered by a nearby human woman. Finely dressed, yet couldn't have been more chromatically at odds with her current environment had she tried.

"No. From where I am from there actually is no elven goddess of the stars. It's a god of starlight and twilight, Araleth Letheranil. This is the temple of the drow goddess of moonlight and dance, Eilistraee. And while she is a friend to the elven gods, she is technically part of the pantheon of drow gods. But I've been learning that what I understand about cosmology is very small in scope, so there very well may be an elven goddess of the stars with a temple in this city," he says with a smile, his manner friendly and upbeat.

The human seems moderately annoyed, far from actual anger:

"Byrlady! Yet another dead end. I would have thought it would be easier to find a elven priest of the stars to inform me if there was some active prophecy regarding a chosen one. But I definitely underestimated how fragmented elven and elven approaching cosmology was."

"Oh, it's a mess in my world. We have the Seldarine and the Dark Seldarine, two pantheons of elves at war with each other. Eilistraee is part of the Dark Seldarine because she's a drow, even though she lives with the Seldarine. I promise it will always be a mess. You live as long as we do and you learn how to hide your drama and baggage. Goes just as well for our gods."

Illiam'iira peeks out from behind a marble column, eyes wide. That's weird! Why would a human be asking about something like that? Do elves even have Chosen Ones? If they did there was only two she could ever think of, and one was dead...

...she's still naked and her hair's still hiding her bits and bobs. Does this girl ever wear clothes?!? And how does her hair even DO that?!?

No matter. What's important is that she gives Fyne a little wave before hiding behind the column again.

"Don't underestimate more short lived species ability to make a mess and never let it go over centuries. My family has been having a feud with the Knights of the Bath for three hundred years and counting.

Nobody involved who was there when it all begins is still alive in this day and age of course. But they told the story to their children, who told the story to their children, and so on."

"I have no doubt it's messy. People do make messes," he agrees with a nod. "Is there a reason you're looking for an elven goddess of stars or a chose one? Could always choose someone to help you," he says with a smirk.

It is taking every ounce of Illiam's very insignificant willpower to not immediately offer help. She is practically vibrating from where she's hiding.

"Had a weird incidental encounter at the market the other day, with a genasi straight out of a fairy tale. So making sure I haven't become a side character in a prophecy or that I am rightfully prepared for what's to come next if I do.

Is the person generating ultrasonic behind us a friend of yours?"
