"What about indirect applications of magic? Using cheaper, simpler spells not to predict the future directly, but to enhance one's ability to deduce what will happen?

The combat example is probably the simplest there. To which degree battle prediction does a better job than enhanced senses? I guess it depends highly of the situation and the person? Instinctively, it seems like a beginner would get more about a spell triggering a mental alarm's bell for them, while a veteran could better put their experience to use if enhanced differently."

''They are quite useful but they enhance your senses abilities rather then add to them. You can perceive an ambush better with enhanced sight but you reaction time will be the same. The downside of the enhance spell is that the spell ends when the concentration is broken. My precognitive spell has no such limitation. Still any advantage is better then none.''

"A perception enhancing spell requiring concentration? Isn't that counterproductive? What insight you gain from the magic, you lose by having to reserve a good deal of your brain to maintaining the spell?

I guess a way to circumvent that is to use sense enhancing artifacts instead. I was planning to add some to my research armor at some point actually, if only so I don't have to get the magnifying glass out so frequently.

Which however raises the question: Can you similarly attune a precognition enchantment to an item? In particular, in a way that doesn't magically recharging it regularly?"

"This can be arranged. Yet I am surprised this is not already something well researched and standardized. It sounds like the kind of equipment any skilled warrior would pay good money for. Anything increasing the chances of getting out of the next fight unharmed is worth more than its weight in mithril."
