[Whisper]

He cursed, revealing a strong flight. It wasn't strong enough.

"The other 'side' might have been more appropriate. It's no secret that the philosophies of the Harmonium and the Free League clash often." He seemed to notice the signals, but there was no sign of recognition. "I can't say I've been to the fire plane. Air. And, Water a couple of times. But, not Fire. I can usually adapt to extreme conditions, though."

He looked at the cards. "Usually."

Mysti actually felt kind of bad that Whisper's strong flight was still beaten. He probably should have won that round in all fairness. She just got insanely lucky. A vague expression of disappointment crosses her face when Whisper didn't recognize the cant, but it was fast and fleeting -- almost not there at all.

"Well ... yeah ... that's true. About the faction clashes. But ... yeah, I'll let you in on a little secret. About me, anyway. I never cared much for all of that. I mean, I do believe in keeping a certain amount of order so we're not in constant warfare trying to defend a couple of bread crumbs from a horde of githyanki or some crazy thing. But ..."

She holds up a finger ....

"I think all of the factions have truths to their ideologies. I ... can't really think of one that is completely and totally barmy." Then she shrugs. "Anything in particular I can help you with? Don't worry, I don't bite. Wait ... yes I do. What am I saying. I forget sometimes." She snickers quietly, revealing the tips of her elongated canines. "I won't bite you though."

He shrugged. "It's not like we're looking for a fight with anyone. Our whole thing is simply to protect one another, really. So, we do try to keep tabs on the Factions, just to see if there's anything that might be a problem for us."

He dealt out the cards again, offering a grin. "I've been bitten by a lot of creatures in my hunts, I doubt you'd be the worst."

[Mysti]

Mysti chuckles lightly at Whisper's words of being bitten by worse. "I certainly hope you have ... if you take my meaning. You would have lived a somewhat sheltered life if I had been the worst." She gives Whisper a playful little wink as she gathers up the dealt cards and scans her hand.

"Hmmm ... " she seems to be looking at her hand of cards in this thoughtful way.

"I always thought warring amongst the factions was a waste of resources. The Harmonium, I am quite certain, can look for trouble where none exists. I tend to take a rather -- how to phrase it -- a more lax approach to enforcing the laws of this city. Hell, I've known to break them myself when in pursuit of the greater good. Which -- yes -- is highly subjective."

Mysti actually gasps in spite of herself. "Oh ... my ... I'm sorry. Um, what did you say your name was? I'm actually starting to feel guilty about this ... but ..."

And she lays down her flight.

He laughed, revealing another hand that would have been strong, against a different opponent.

"The elves called me Whisper. I barely spoke when I was a child."

"Ahh ... Whisper. Is that you're given name? If so, it is certainly ... hmm ... shall we say ... enigmatic." She chuckled again, extending her hand over the cards. "Well ... I'm known as Mysti. With a 'y' and 'i'. It's my ... professional name. Not very many know my actual given name. Who knows -- if we become friends, maybe you'll be one of the lucky few."

Mysti makes an overly dramatic face meant to mock her own secrecy regarding her name. "My name is a bit of a twist on the word "mystery" and "mist" -- since, well, it has to do with my skillset." She gathered up the cards and shuffled them in such an idle sort of way that it looked like she was going to end up losing them all over the floor. But somehow she doesn't.

"Would I be ... intruding were I to ask ... why you spoke so little as a child? And ... has such a habit transitioned with you into adulthood?" She raised a curious eyebrow.

[Whisper]

He smiled and shook her hand.

"It's the name the elves gave me. If I was given one before they took me in, I don't know what it is." he shrugged. "I spent more of my time with Hush, the Cooshee who found me. Elven dogs almost never make any noise, no barks or growls or whimpers. I followed his example and when I talked it was as quietly as I could manage."

"I am more talkative now." he grinned. "It's a bit easier to find work and make friends when others can understand what your saying."

Mysti nodded slowly as Whisper explained -- she seemed quite interested. At least outwardly.

"In that sense, then -- I suppose we are kindred spirits. I've always been, hmm ... rather quiet myself. ((This was the original post I was trying to write -- but my Maine Coon jumped up on my desk and trotted across the keyboard which included hitting the 'submit' button so ... hopefully this makes more sense heh))

Although, true enough, that whatever is deemed worthwhile is very subjective."

"But ..." she said quickly as she began dealing more cards.

"Today ... might be a little different. I might babble like I never do. Ever. People who prattle on as I'm doing right now usually annoy me ... so I apologize in advance. I've been drinking a little. Okay -- a lot. I usually don't talk this much. I sometimes go the entire day without saying anything to anyone."

She paused for a moment -- but not for very long before she plowed forward. "You see ... my so-called boyfriend decided to toss me aside like a piece of utter trash for some woman he's known for less than a week! Mmhmm ... just happened about an hour ago so -- yeah -- I haven't quite come to grips with it ... yet."

She was somehow able to keep a cheery outward demeanor, but her words were laced with a profound rage lurking just under the surface. But that rage was undercut by an equally profound sadness that appeared to keep her from going berzerk. "Of course why would you want to know that. What is the matter with me? See -- this is why I don't like to drink."

"Correct me if I'm wrong - and I may be - but - you're a drow, yes?" She dropped her cards and suddenly exclaimed, "Bollocks! Well, there's a flight you have a good chance of beating."
